CONCUKLTV03-17    TIPHERETH CAMPHILL      August 2017-August 2018   SOCI/DISA  VOLS:2 (males)

AGE: 18-30

PROJECT: Tiphereth is part of the Camphill Movement, which was founded in 1940 and works to create communities in which vulnerable children and adults with learning difficulties, can live, work and learn with others in healthy social relationships based on mutual care and respect.

WORK: Tiphereth is looking for long term volunteers, who can commit for 1 year, who will live and work within their community. As a volunteer with Tiphereth you will live in one of their community houses. In the house you will help to support residents with all aspects of their lives.

This involves personal care, in some cases assisting with bathing and dressing, meal times, recreational care where the community share time together doing activities, accompanying the residents on outings, as well as general house tasks like laundry, cleaning and cooking. You will also support the social enterprises by helping with environmental work, gardening and composting, as well as making jams pickles and marmalades for sale to the public. One day a week you will help with the maintenance of the house - this could be anything from cooking and cleaning to shopping or gardening.

The weekends follow a different rhythm and as a household or with individuals you will take part in many outings and social occasions. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the celebration of Christian festivals throughout the year, with plays, singing and outings. The days can be long; you are involved with helping the residents to get up, share breakfast together, work on our projects, support them to come home from work, have supper together in the evening and support evening activities. You will need to be enthusiastic, but living in a community is hugely rewarding. Most weeks you will have two days off to rest and explore Edinburgh and Scotland. You will receive £250 personal expenses per month.

TRAINING: You will receive a comprehensive training and induction program which covers such topics as epilepsy, first aid, protection of vulnerable adults and other social care topics such as food hygiene and fire training.

ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will have their own bedroom in one of the community houses. You will share the living facilities and bathrooms. Meals are eaten together and all your food will be provided.

HOLIDAY: You can have up to four weeks holiday per year and you'll receive extra ‘pocket money' for your holiday.

LOCATION: Tiphereth is a Camphill Community located on the outskirts of Edinburgh but with a direct bus route into the city centre. It is located in the Colinton district of Edinburgh which has its own convenience store, post office, doctors' surgery, pubs and cafes. Colinton is also adjacent to Bonaly Country Park and the Pentland Hills, which are ideally suited for exploring on foot or by bike.

NEAREST TRAIN STATIONS: Waverley and Haymarket

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers need to provide a CV, a letter of motivation, a certificate of good conduct/police check and a recent photograph. As you will be living and working with vulnerable people once offered a placement with Tiphereth you will be asked for further paperwork - 2 references and a medical check. This paperwork will need to be submitted and approved before Tiphereth can confirm your placement. Volunteers need to have a reasonable level of physical fitness.

EXTRA FEE: 30 Euros to be paid to Concordia UK by bank transfer, Paypal or on arrival at the project.

Applications will be assessed on a first come first served basis so please apply as soon as possible. Volunteers should be aware that it may take at least a couple of weeks to hear back from the hosting organisation.
