Community Supported Agriculture in Wales (6 months)

Cae Tan - Community Supported Agriculture grows organic vegetables for over 100 local households in Wales. The largest community-supported farming project in Wales is located on the beautiful Gower Peninsula. Community Support Agriculture means that the responsibilities, rewards and risks in growing the food are shared by all members of the community. The organization also conducts on-site educational activities with local schools, families and communities.

From April to September 2023, Cae Tan is looking for support in organic vegetable cultivation in this joint project.

Every year an intern from Great Britain works with ESC volunteers in the project. You work in the various fields and in the Gower Heritage Center Hub on the Gower Peninsula.

Your tasks:

  •     Sowing, soil preparation, planting, pest control, care, harvest

  •     Maintenance of structures, fences, construction of film tunnels, etc.

  •     Packaging and hosting of the hub where the produce is collected

  •     Support with educational activities such as B. School visits

Even if the project is in a rural area, here you are near a city (Swansea). There are good bus connections both into the city and further onto the peninsula (but only at certain times).

Conditions

Cae Tan is looking for volunteers with an interest in agriculture and community work. Experience working on a farm can be useful, but it is not the most important criterion. Cae Tan's projects are open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 30, regardless of background, skills and experience.

Participation in the European Solidarity Corps is free. You will receive free food and accommodation during the entire voluntary service. In addition, you will receive a small amount of pocket money for personal expenses for the entire duration of the project, including your vacation days.

The project runs from April 2023 to September 2023 (6 months). Please make sure you are available for this whole period.
