Caerhys Organic Community Agriculture in Wales (6 months)

Caerhys Organic Community Agriculture (COCA) is a community supported farming scheme based near St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

COCA is made up of around 50 members who work together to grow their own vegetables, salads and soft fruit and support a local farm by sharing the risks and rewards. The association aims to educate people in sustainable food production and to promote organic food and community-supported agriculture.

From April to September 2023, COCA is looking for support in this community project.

COCA is looking for 2 volunteers to support and further develop their work at Caerhys Organic Farm.

You will be actively involved as a volunteer in farm work: growing, planting, transplanting and planning community growing as part of the Growing team. You work 35 hours a week and get at least 2 days vacation per month.

The ESC volunteers will live in a permanent mobile home at Caerhys Organic Farm.

You each have your own separate bedroom and share a kitchen, bathroom and living room. The mobile home is in good condition and has been used as accommodation for previous international volunteers throughout the year. Accommodation is on site and close to the farmhouse where your mentors live.

What you should know: As the farm is very isolated you should be interested and motivated to live in a beautiful but remote part of West Wales. There is limited internet access on the farm and very poor cell phone reception.

Conditions

COCA is looking for volunteers with an interest in agriculture and the community economy. Experience working on a farm can be useful but is not the most important criterion. COCA projects are open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 30, regardless of background, skills and experience.

Participation in the European Solidarity Corps is free. You will receive free food and accommodation during the entire voluntary service. In addition, you will receive a small amount of pocket money for personal expenses for the entire duration of the project, including your vacation days.
