Environmental protection camps in autumn (Germany)

Volunteer for the protection of forests, moors and biodiversity in Germany

Would you like to become active yourself to protect the climate and nature? Do you want to use your time and work for a charitable project? We still have a few free places in three workcamps this autumn in Germany:

Protect bogs and biodiversity in Weißenstadt

Help to protect one of the largest raised bogs in northern Bavaria and support the forestry office in species protection work.

When?

11-24 Sep 2022

What?

The largest bogs in northern Bavaria are in the Fichtelgebirge. They are peat bogs, that is, wetlands characterized by living moss plants. The Zeitelmoos is one of the largest bogs areas in this region.

A major problem in the bog is the growth of woody plants such as shrubs and trees. Trees have been able to spread because the bog has been damaged in the past. However, trees negatively impact the availability of water and the amount of carbon that can be stored.

Your tasks:

  •     remove the bushes and trees that do not belong in the bog;

  •     collect the removed vegetation and stack them outside the bog or remove them directly from the forest.

Environmental Education Center Kell am See

Help maintain and beautify the outdoor area of a local youth work education center near Trier.

When?

September 18-October 02, 2022

What?

Every year, international volunteers come to Kell am See and support the education center, a place that offers various environmental education activities for youth groups and school classes.

The center was renovated a few years ago. Various new outdoor and training facilities were installed. The workcamp will work in the care and maintenance of the green areas around the education center.

Your tasks:

  •     mowing grass and shrubs;

  •     renovation/maintenance of the playground with its large swing, the low ropes course, the tree houses and the sports fields;

  •     maintenance of the herb garden and the insect hotel;

  •     construction of wooden benches;

  •     cleaning of the premises of the center.

Forest conservation center in Ober-Olm

Support a forest conservation center near Mainz in protecting the local forest and setting up environmental education structures.

When?

October 02-16, 2022

What?

The new "Forest Nature Conservation Center Ober-Olm" is a branch of the Rheinhessen Forestry Office and is set to become more and more an attraction for forest visitors and a place of learning for sustainable development in the coming years.

The forest conservation center is located near Mainz in a sparsely forested area. The main goal of the center is therefore to preserve the 350 hectares of protected forest while making it a place of ecological learning. The local rangers need your support.

Your tasks:

  •     biotope maintenance in nature conservation and Natura2000 areas;

  •     strengthening of certain tree species for nature and climate protection;

  •     support for the climate protection action day on October 3rd;

  •     apple picking for cider production (educational event on October 15);

  •     establishment of a tree nursery (preparing the ground, building a wooden fence, collecting seeds).
