Travel grants for Workcamp volunteers

Participating in a Workcamp abroad means that you are making your way to another region, country or continent. You are doing the climate a great favor if you travel by train and bus or even by bike or on foot instead of by plane. This often takes a little longer, but it is quite easy to do, especially within Europe.

Travel grants for your ecologically more sustainable trip

If you decide to travel from Germany  to your Workcamp abroad by bus, train, bike or on foot, we will be happy to reimburse part of your travel expenses.

If you travel by bus and/or train, the following applies, depending on the distance between your place of residence and the camp site according to the route planner (recommended route):

  •     0 -500 km: 0 euro grant

What are the conditions for the grants?

You can apply for a travel allowance if the following criteria are met:

  • You have not yet reached the age of 27 when the project starts.

  •  You have a permanent residence in Germany and travel from Germany to the workcamp and back.

  •  The Workcamp (max. duration of 28 days) is the main part of your stay. You can add vacation time after the Workcamp. However, the time after the end of the camp until the return journey to Germany must be shorter than the Workcamp.

How to apply for a travel grant:

Once you have been accepted for your Workcamp abroad, you will automatically receive an application form from us. If you meet the above criteria, you can submit the form to IBG within 4 weeks after the end of the camp, fully completed and signed, along with the following documents:

  •     Original train or bus tickets
  •     for online bookings alternatively the booking confirmation + invoice + proof of payment

If you travel on foot or by bike, you should report regularly on your experiences during the trip, as you cannot produce any documents here. We therefore ask you to provide us with at least 5 pictures. Your report can motivate others to follow your example and travel to the camp in an ecologically sustainable way. Please contact us beforehand.

What if I participate in a Workcamp in Germany?

If you live in Germany and take part in one of our Workcamps in Germany, your journey is usually even shorter. Ecologically sustainable travel is quite easy to implement within Germany.

With the reduced participation fee, we would like to motivate all volunteers in Germany to lend a hand in local camps: You only pay €48 to take part in a Workcamp in Germany instead of €75 as before.

Our Outgoing Officer Lukas will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the travel grants:
