Earth Hour in Slatinka (Slovakia)

Be part of "Earth Hour" in the Slovakian village of Slatinka!

Slatinka is a small village near Zvolen in the central part of Slovakia. The village is surrounded by nature with many tourist routes and hiking opportunities.

The Slatinka association was founded in 1993 in response to the construction of the Slatinka dam on the Slatina River. The association's mission is to work in the river basin, protect the environment and preserve natural areas while spreading awareness of the project's impact on nature. One of the association's main goals is to bring the village back to life, as many people had to leave the village due to the construction of the dam. Our colleagues from INEX Slovakia have been organizing international camps in Slatinka since 2011.

When?

March 27th-29th, 2026

The project

Volunteers will help with cleaning the Slatina River together with residents of the village of Slatinka on Saturday (max. 6 hours) and Sunday (max. 4 hours). The river will be cleaned from boats, banks, and similar locations. The program will include a screening and discussion on the protection of rivers and wetlands with a guest speaker, during which participants will learn to identify the “inhabitants” of wetlands. Participants will be involved in the Earth Feast through this activity. The individual tasks do not require any special skills.
