One-week bootcamp at an art festival in Hong Kong!
Fragrant Village (香村, Xiangcun) is an organization primarily dedicated to an art festival. Founded in 2016, it is registered as an association with the Hong Kong government.
The organization focuses on preserving village structures and uses rural areas, the environment, and the stories of Hong Kong’s people as starting points for its musical and artistic work.
Through music and artistic activities, Fragrant Village explores ways to tell the region's stories using songs, sounds, and performances.

What is the camp about?
You will participate in a series of activities centered on village life, culture, and art. The specific program will be coordinated with local partners and may include the following elements:
(1) Immersion in the village life and community of Kat O: Learn about the history, daily life, cultural heritage, and stories of the Kat O community through guided tours, exchanges with villagers, and personal on-site encounters.
(2) Meeting local artists and cultural practitioners: Meet the people connected to the art festival (including local and international artists) and discover how art can engage with rural communities, "placemaking," and the village's culture of remembrance.
(3) Hands-on experiences related to heritage and community: Participate in activities such as carrying water, gaining insights into fishing culture, village walks, visits to community spaces, architecture workshops, design thinking sessions, or other local experiences.
(4) Preparing a public contribution for the art festival: Together, you will develop a simple yet meaningful contribution. This could be, for example, a cultural booth, an art presentation, a performance, a musical contribution, a storytelling session, or a mixed-format community presentation.
(5) Supporting the art festival’s public program: Get involved in the festival’s weekend program—such as by staffing booths, giving cultural performances, providing music, interacting with the audience, or engaging in creative exchange at or around the bamboo theater.
(6) Participation in closing, conference, or cultural exchange events: Attend special closing or conference events focusing on topics like rural communities, art, and exchange. Participants with relevant experience can contribute in English (with basic translation provided if necessary).
(7) Excursion to Mui Tsz Lam or Lai Chi Wo: Depending on arrangements with partners and transport logistics, you can visit Mui Tsz Lam or Lai Chi Wo to discover another rural setting in Hong Kong and take part in related educational or volunteer activities.
