Petition against cuts in funding for civil society engagement

"Gerade jetzt. Für alle." - Civil society engagement for democracy in danger: Stop budget cuts now!

Currently, drastic cuts in the federal budget are being discussed, which would have dramatic consequences - among others - for our work in the field of international youth work. But it is about much more than just money.

Every day at least nine people fall victim to right-wing, racist or anti-Semitic violence: Our democracy is under noticeable pressure. Intolerance turns into hatred and hatred turns into violence. On the Internet and on our streets. And even in our parliaments. Those who repeatedly oppose this across the country: civil society initiatives.

Every day, organizations support people who experience hatred and incitement. They advise schools or institutions on prevention and radicalization. Or support people in emergencies. Civil society engagement offers those affected urgently needed support. Such social service and commitment is now threatened with extinction.

Civil society engagement is more important than ever. But right now, the austerity measures in the federal budget are threatening to massively cut these services. This threatens the existence of many civil society organizations. Advisors can no longer answer the phone. People who experience discrimination are left alone. Political education is being removed from the project week. Institutions that have done important work for our society for decades could now be lost forever. Cutting funding could cost us all dearly. Because it is about so much more than just money.

Prevent budget cuts now!

There is still a chance to save our civil society. In these weeks the federal government of Germany is discussing where and how much of the budget should be cut. Chancellor Scholz has a great influence on this decision. The commitment to the common good and a democratic and social society must not be cut back. We must make this clear to the Chancellor. And we need your support for this. Our goal: 100,000 signatures. This will enable us to build up pressure and avert the impending cuts. Give civil society your voice. Right now. For everyone.
