Media4Change: Multimedia Tool Training in Galicia

From March 17-22nd, Mel, Sina, and Janina, along with other youth workers from six other international organizations, were in Santiago de Compostela for the multimedia tool training of our "Media4Change" project.

The goal of the "Media4Change" project is to learn more about working with participatory media for our organizations. Over the next two years, we will explore how we can support you in using a wide variety of media tools to make YOUR voice heard on environmental and climate protection. Join us this summer when we test the first projects in our camps and training sessions!

What is participatory media?

Participatory media is a means of communication in which users themselves can play an active role in collecting, reporting, analyzing, and disseminating content. This includes, for example, creating and sharing videos, photos, music, or other audio.

In participatory media projects, a group or community creates its own film, podcast, or other photo or media project. Collaborative creation is used to bring people together to discuss and analyze problems, share concerns or issues with an audience, or simply explore creativity and storytelling. The collective creation process therefore plays an even more important role than the technical aspects of implementation.

What we did at the Multimedia Tool Training

During the training in Santiago, we learned about methods and experimented with how participatory media can be used in working with youth groups. We were guided and supported in particular by our colleagues from Agareso, an organization that has been conducting workshops with local and international groups for many years, using audiovisual media as tools for participation and social change.

Thematically, sustainability and climate protection will be at the heart of all exercises and activities at 'Media4Change'. In the winter, we conducted a survey among volunteers in the seven participating countries and beyond, the results of which you can read here.
