The United Nations has declared 2026 the International Year of Volunteers (IVY2026) to recognise and celebrate the vital role volunteers play in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The aim is to raise the profile of volunteering and civic engagement, particularly in the areas of sustainability, climate action, inclusion and community resilience.
As part of the Climate Action Live Lab (CALL), we have put together a toolkit on the topic of ‘Climate Action’ in collaboration with 19 participants from Belarus, Finland, France, Germany, India, Mongolia, Nepal and Syria.
The toolkit can be used by all group leaders, volunteers and youth workers who are looking for methods relating to climate action.
Building on the International Year of Volunteers 2026, during the Climate Action Live Lab (CALL) training we tested small (or larger) action ideas that you too can implement this summer with a group – in your work camp, your ESK volunteer team, your youth exchange or during similar group activities.
About the Climate Action Live Lab (CALL)
The CALL was a training course for young volunteers, group leaders and youth workers, designed to explore climate justice, social justice and sustainable development, exchange local perspectives and jointly develop practical ideas for action to enhance the local impact of their volunteering projects.
The training took place from 25 to 30 May 2026 at Le Créneau in France. Le Créneau is an old castle in Montcombroux Vieux Bourg in the Auvergne region of central France. Since 1993, the local branch of our partner organisation, Solidarités Jeunesses, has been working here with international and French volunteers and the local community.
