Build an eco-centre in the Jizera Mountains (Czech Republic))

Support the construction of an eco center in Hrabetice

This Workcamp is organized by our colleagues from INEX-SDA in cooperation with the Association for the Jizera Mountains, which has been active in the Jizera Mountains since 1999. The association runs an eco-centre in the middle of the forest, where trees are planted, tourist infrastructure is restored and educational programs for children and adults are offered. The association is currently building a new ecological center in Hrabetice, a district of Janov nad Nisou.

When?

06-12 Aug 2023

The project

The aim of the Workcamp is to expand the forest playground used by school classes and create a basin to retain water in the landscape and change the natural character.

As a volunteer, you have two main tasks: expanding the forest playground, including building obstacles and creating a forest path, and landscaping in this area. Examples include mowing grassland, pulling lawns, and digging a hole for a pool in partially waterlogged terrain.

As most of the work takes place outdoors, we recommend bringing suitable clothing that can get dirty or damaged, sturdy shoes or rubber shoes and a raincoat.

In a study part you will learn more about the local history of the settlements and take part in a workshop on environmental activities. In addition, guided tours through the area, meetings with locals and an international evening will be organized for and with you.

Where does the camp take place?

The eco center is located in Hrabetice near Janov nad Nisou in the Jizera Mountains. The nearest larger cities are Jablonec nad Nisou and Liberec, where there are ATMs and a pharmacy. Despite this, this workcamp is away from civilization, there are no shops or services, but still good phone reception.

In your free time there is a possibility to rent bicycles or scooters and explore the beauty of the Jizera Mountains. Hikes in the Jizera Mountains, board games and table tennis are available.
