Camino y Molino (Spain)

Restore an old hiking trail in Northern Spain

Candamo is a small municipality in the Principality of Asturias, in northern Spain. Candamo is located in the region known as 'Camín Real de la Mesa'. Here is for example the cave 'La Peña' and many orchards. Strawberries in particular have an almost vital importance for Candamo - they even celebrate the 'Festival of the Strawberry'.

The task of the workcamp that our colleagues from de Amicitia organize in Candamo will be to help with the restoration, improvement and signaling of the trail 'Senda de Los Molinos del Dele'. There are several mills along the path, many of which are now in ruins.

When?

14-29 July 2023

The project

You are helping to restore the 'Senda de Los Molinos del Dele' hiking trail. You will be accompanied and advised by employees of the municipality. The main idea is to revitalize this ancient path that runs along the Dele River and turn it into a tourist attraction.

Candamo is very close to the Cantabrian Sea coast, where you have the opportunity to enjoy the Asturian beaches just 40 minutes from the city. There are also many hiking trails and routes that you could explore.

This project is funded as a Volunteering Team through the European Solidarity Corps.

This means that as a volunteer in this camp you will receive pocket money and a travel allowance for your trip from Germany to Spain. Participation in European Solidarity Corps projects is open to all young volunteers aged between 18 and 30 residing in a country participating in the programme.
