Open-Air-Theatre Heidenheim

Curtain up, stage clear! Are you ready to help build a theater set?

The Heidenheim Open-Air-Theater is the second largest of its kind in southern Germany. It is located on the “Burgberg” in the town of Heidenheim an der Brenz, surrounded by forest, and offers space for up to 1,100 spectators.

The theater is run by a non-profit organization with over 500 members of all ages and is delighted to welcome a group of international volunteers again. This project is perfect for anyone interested in theater and wants to take a look behind the scenes!

When?

April 22nd - May 6th, 2024

The projec

In this camp you will help build the stage for the Heidenheim Open-Air-Theater.

Two plays will be performed here in the summer of 2024: “Annie” – an orphan who finds a new home with a wealthy businessman, looking for a reunion with her biological parents – and “The Robber Hotzenplotz” – the story of Kasperl and Seppel , who are trying to catch the cunning robber Hotzenplotz in order to get Grandma's stolen coffee grinder back.

The stage and set design must be built or reworked accordingly: In the end, the backdrop should look like New York and a small German village at the same time - a very interesting and challenging task! You will screw, nail and paint. Smaller props also need to be built.

In addition, the work also includes...

  • the installation of a wooden floor in the props room

  • the renewal of the cover of the small wooden rack warehouse

  • the restoration of the seats in the Klausengarten

  • cleaning the stones around the cold room with a high-pressure cleaner (if necessary, replace them or fill them with gravel)

  • painting the walls and repairing the cracks in the pavilion,

  • ...and some other tasks as needed!

You will have a professional stage builder at your side who will support you with all tasks. However, it is definitely helpful if you have a little experience in manual/construction work and have used tools such as cordless screwdrivers.

You will be accommodated directly in the theater.

In addition to the open-air stage, there is an administration building, a workshop, a café and a small beer garden.

There is a large room for you in the building, as well as showers and a kitchen. Attention: There is only one large bedroom for all volunteers - separation by gender, for example, is not possible!
