Stone & Story: Castle Renovation (Slovakia)

Archeology camp in eastern Slovakia: Help discover the ruins of Kysak Castle!

The Slovak association 'Rakociho cesta' wants to contribute to the preservation and renovation of historical monuments and traditions. 'Rakociho cesta' is currently involved in the restoration of several castles: Saris, Kapusany, Sebes, Solnohrad (Salzburg), Lipovce and Obisovce. Our colleagues from INEX Slovakia have been organizing international work camps with the association since 2008.

When?

05th-20th August, 2026

The project

Kysak Castle was a medieval castle. Nowadays there are only ruins underground. The city of Kysak strives to preserve this cultural heritage.

The aim of the camp is to explore the foundations of the castle tower, which are located below the surface of the earth. The work will be part of archaeological research.

You will also be involved in renovation work, cleaning the site and transporting materials (such as sand, stones and water) and learn more about the history of the castles in Eastern Slovakia. No construction or archaeological experience is required.

This project is funded as a volunteering team through the European Solidarity Corps.

This means that as a volunteer in this camp you will receive pocket money and a travel allowance for your trip from Germany to Slovakia. Participation in European Solidarity Corps projects is open to all young volunteers aged between 18 and 30 residing in a country participating in the programme.

We still have a few open spots for volunteers from Germany, so sign up here to be a part of this volunteering team.
