Dive into the history of Terezin (Czech Republic)

Restore an 18th century fortress in Terezin, Czech Republic!

In July, our colleagues from INEX-SDA in the Czech Republic are organizing a camp in collaboration with the association 'Terezin - City of Change', whose aim is to renovate the historical buildings of the Terezin Fortress to make it accessible to the public and to organize educational and cultural activities. Terezin is located about an hour from Prague in the north of the Czech Republic.

Thanks to its rich history and unique monuments from the 18th century, Terezin Fortress is on the indicative list (waiting list) of UNESCO. The aim of the July camp is to help restore and preserve the old fortress city. You will learn more about the history of the city, which goes far beyond the cruel history of Terezin during the Second World War.

When?

06.-20. July 2024

What is the camp about?

You will clean and restore the 18th century fortress's water system, clean and maintain the mini-zoo military yard, clean the fort's fortifications and underground passages, and maintain the green vegetation.

Most of the work will take place outside. So please bring suitable clothing that can get dirty, ideally rubber boots or sandals for going into the water.

This camp is the perfect project for all history and nature lovers, architecture students and anyone who appreciates the beauty of a preserved 18th century site and wants to support work on it. Be aware: If you are allergic to animal hair or hay, this project may not be best for you.

This project is funded as a volunteering team through the European Solidarity Corps.

This means that as a volunteer in this camp you will receive pocket money and a travel allowance for your trip from Germany to the Czech Republic.

Participation in European Solidarity Corps projects is open to all young volunteers between the ages of 18 and 30, residing in a country participating in the program.
