Training for Trainers and Group Leaders: How can I encourage active participation and engagement in volunteering projects?
Have you ever been asked by volunteers if they can go to bed now? Have you ever had to accompany and support the assigned kitchen team while cooking pasta more than you thought? In short, have you ever felt as a group leader as if you were unintentionally taking on the role of parent for the participants? And was the (perceived) lack of independence of participants stressful for you and/or the entire group?
In this international training, we want to exchange tips, tricks and methods and develop how group leaders can support the participants of work camps or other volunteer projects in becoming more independent and self-sufficient in their volunteer role.
When?
June 18-22, 2025
The training starts in the late afternoon of June 18 and ends in the morning of June 22.
Where?
The training takes place in the leisure center at the Waldsee in Fornsbach (Murrhardt) near Stuttgart.
Accessibility
The venue in Fornsbach is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
What is this training about?
We want to encourage the participants in our camps and volunteering projects to help shape learning processes themselves, to take on responsibility and to actively contribute themselves and their own ideas. For our group leaders, this means that they organize the camp cooperatively, delegate responsibility to participants, and in the best case make themselves redundant as group leaders over the course of the project.
This training is therefore about how group leaders can best use non-formal methods to create an integrative, inclusive and empowering environment for volunteers. To do this, we will try out interactive workshop and discussion formats and practical activities that can help young people become more independent and self-reliant. Meet like-minded people from different countries and exchange ideas, experiences and best practices.
The aim of the training is to learn about and use suitable strategies and methods with which group leaders can encourage participants to take responsibility for their own volunteer experiences. Among other things, we would like to develop approaches together as to how these methods can be taught to new group leaders in training seminars.
Who can participate?
This training is suitable for camp leaders, trainers and youth workers who work in the field of work camps and international experience.
