Join a workcamp despite travel bans and quarantine
Maybe you were prepared to join an environmental workcamp and work in nature for two weeks. Maybe you wanted to help renovate an old castle or build a playground. Maybe you wanted to support a non-profit festival or a social project. You were probably looking forward to learning new skills and meeting new friends. At this moment, however, due to the spread of the new coronavirus, borders are closed, flights are suspended and entire countries are in lockdown.
That means, of course, that it is impossible for many volunteers to travel. It also means that workcamps which were planned for the next weeks have to be cancelled. But let’s look on the bright side – it is still possible to meet people from all over the world online! So join our virtual workcamp and volunteer in a different way!
What will we be working on together?
Various workcamp organizations have put together useful tasks and activities in the last few weeks that can be done together online.
The first virtual groups have already finished their projects. For example, an international group has cooked regional recipes together virtually and created a small cookbook.
All current projects and activities can be found in the following overview. Whether environment or sports and health, communication and language or rather artistic / creative ideas. There are many ways you can get involved from home and meet other online volunteers from all over the world. Together you can exchange ideas, experiences, language, music, recipes and much more, just like in a real workcamp.
Here you can find the online board where all recent projects and activities are presented and new ones will be added. You should at least join one, but you can of course participate in more, if you like. And of course, you can exchange ideas, experiences, language, music, recipes and much more with the other online volunteers, just as in a real workcamp. Bring your own ideas and let’s be creative together!
In the virtual workcamps there are several smaller work projects and activities you can join:
We believe that especially in times as challenging as these, it is important to raise our voices for solidarity and international friendship.
This is a joint project of many workcamps organisations worldwide. International workcamps were created 100 years ago to work towards mutual understanding, peace and solidarity beyond borders. Let’s keep this spirit and find new ways to get to know and support each other. This virtual workcamp is organized by different workcamp organisations worldwide as an effort to keep up international volunteering, even if most of us cannot travel right now.
