Voltri (Italy)

In July our colleagues from IBO Italia offer a work camp together with two social farms in the Genoa area.

“LaTabacca“ (the tobacco) is an ecological and social farm that fosters environmental education and activism, as well as a networking with the local community and civil society. Thedesign of the place is constructed on ecological principles: The restoration of the house with natural technologies and materials, the installing of solar panels, the insulation made of 200 straw bales, and the careful planning of water recycling through a plant clarification tank, a sewer, and dry toilets.

The social farm “Tutti giù per terra” (a cinematographic term to describe young people who are looking for a place in the world) was created with the dream of returning to nature and to live and work together in the outdoors. The farm offers space for pedagogical workshops.

When is it?

June 19 – July 4, 2025

What is it about?

In the first week you will work at La Tabacca, in the second the camp will be at Tutti giù per terra.

You’ll take care of:
•    small maintenance work around the area
•    gardening and harvesting of produce for the preparation of meals and the replanting in fall
•    keeping the rose garden and the agroforestry orchard
•    managing the water system and water recycling to optimize consumption
•    maintenance of dry walls

You will spend the nights together in provisioned tents near the woodland of La Tabacca. There you will also find outdoor showers and dry toilets. Meals are prepared in the group.
You should bring a flashlight, solid shoes (e.g. hiking boots), work gloves, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and mosquito repellent.

This project is funded as “volunteering team“ by the European Solidarity Corps.

It means that you as a volunteer of this camp receive allowance and a lump sum for your travel from Germany to Italy.

The participation in projects of the European Solidarity Corps is open to everyone between the age of 18 and 30 who is resident in one of the countries that are part of the program.

We have some free places left for volunteers from Germany, so register now to participate in this camp.
