International project internship in nature conservation / ecology

IBG e.V. organizes international Workcamps in Germany. In Workcamps, young people from all over the world live together for two to three weeks and implement non-profit work projects together with a local partner.

Under the motto "Let's take action for climate protection", we will be carrying out a particularly large number of nature conservation projects in 2025. Local collaborations take place, for example, with national and nature parks, biosphere reserves, landscape conservation associations, forests or individual municipalities.

As part of these projects, IBG offers international project internships in the field of nature conservation/ecology in the summer of 2025 with a range of 240 - 480 hours.

The core of the internship is the coordination of an ecological workcamp in Germany together with a co-leader. In this internship you can convert theoretical knowledge into practical action. The on-site technical instructions are provided by national park rangers, forestry or municipal employees. The supervision and accompaniment of ecologically interested volunteers and intercultural communication are important elements of the internship.

Combine ecological elements with aspects of international cooperation and project management activities.

The project internship gives you the opportunity to try out aspects that are an integral part of many professional fields: Presentation of your own project to the media and in public events, direct cooperation with mayors, local associations and the local population, organizational issues such as insurance, budget management and administration.

The "look behind the scenes" also offers you the chance to experience the design of trainings and seminars for volunteers and the organizational structures of IBG.

The internship consists of 4 different modules:

  1. Training “Group Leading in environmental projects” from 30th April to 05th May 2025 in Kell am See (near Trier).

  2. Project coordination of one or two international Workcamps (e.g. rewetting of bogs in Hunsrück national park, capercaillie projection in the Bavarian Forest, maintenance of a nature discovery trail, etc.). In addition, there is organizational preparation together with the co-leader. 16 to 23 days of continuous presence are required per project.

  3. Conception and implementation of an environmental education workshop in a project (work camp/seminar) of IBG or alternatively (project-related) public relations work: organize an information session about your work camp in your environment, write a blog or present the project in another form.

  4. Evaluation seminar from October 2nd to 5th, 2025 near Speyer with reflection on experiences, pedagogical alternatives and an analysis of the skills gained.

We are happy to adapt the internship to the needs of your study regulations. Volunteering at IBG is also possible to a varying extent. In this way, you can contribute your own ideas and implement them together with the IBG project coordinators - whether in connection with a bachelor's or master's thesis or otherwise.

Requirements and Conditions

Knowledge of English is a necessary requirement for the internship. You will also need curiosity about other people, cultures and structures. Personal experience abroad and experience with volunteering are an advantage.

During the internship you will be continuously supported by the team of IBG's project officers.

Basic accommodation and meals are provided for the training, seminar and the Workcamp, 100% of the travel costs to the training and 50% of the travel costs to the evaluation seminar are reimbursed. Other travel costs are to be covered by yourself.

IBG offers an expense allowance for running the ecological Workcamp (400 euros for two-week camps/500 euros for three-week camps).
